What It’s Like to Be a Researcher: A View from the Inside
In August 2023, we organized a two-week workshop on the social sciences for high school students — as part of the Summer School project. Lectures, interviews, games, text discussions, data analysis, and evening conversations around the campfire all helped students not only discover what the social sciences are, but also enjoy two unforgettable weeks.
The program was developed by members of the Group for Migration and Ethnicity Research. The schedule featured researchers from a wide range of fields: I.A. Bezzhenezhnikh, E.A. Varshaver, I.A. Klimov, A.M. Maltsev, M.A. Melnichenko, K.A. Puzanov, D.M. Rogozin, E.O. Srapyan, and A.N. Yakimov.

It turned out to be a true introduction to research — not just to the profession, but to the very essence of academic life. Through role models, scholars’ biographies, their work and reflections, participants got a glimpse into what it really means to be a researcher.
