This collection of articles was prepared based on the results of the student expedition “Constructing Ethnicity in Local Contexts of Dagestan”, which took place in July 2021 as part of the HSE project “Rediscovering Russia”. United by the topic of ethnicity, the articles are preceded by an introduction by the head of the expedition E.A. Varshaver. The introduction reveals the main theoretical tenets of the study, presents the key findings, and describes the specificity of a student expedition as a context for research. Each of the articles is devoted to a narrow topic and based on 85 interviews that were collected in different regions of Dagestan. Among the topics to which the articles are devoted are the ethnicization of religion, “Russianness”, joking relationships, the construction of ethnicity in a museum exhibition, etc. The final part of the collection contains feedback of the expedition participants and photos. The book may be of interest to researchers of ethnicity, Dagestan and the Caucasus, heads of student expeditions, etc.
