Having analyzed the existing approaches towards studying transformation of gender relations of migrants, the author develops a new approach grounded on the theoretical resources of the life-course approach. According to this approach, transformation of gender relations is considered through the change of biographical scenarios – gender-structured normative “templates” of a biography. On the empirical data of a survey of Kyrgyz migrants in Moscow (N=350), 133 interviews and 10 observation fieldnotes, the author shows that transformation of gender relations considered through change of biographical scenarios finds its way in the context of migrants’ social ties and their “imagined” ties with the “Kyrgyz ethnic group” which serves as a basis for the social control after female migrants.
